What THEY Forgot To Tell You When You Started Your Business?

After being in the business for over 10 years, one thing still gets my goose is that people are still coming into this industry being sold on the fact that they are buying into this “business in a box” theory.  And even folks that have been in this business for many years are still trying to find that golden ticket in their box.  Here’s a clue………it ain’t there.

Sure, you get a box delivered to your door with all the goodies to get you started, so they say and I agree to some extent that this box does contain a few pieces of helpful information, but nothing that’s going to get you out of debt or live that life you dream of.  They just don’t put that six figure stuff inside there.  So what are you to do?  Well, the one thing, and the most important thing, that they, including your upline, forgot to tell you is that you are in a network marketing business, not a network business.  Yes, you have to network with people to get your business get off the ground, but you also have to learn how to market to them, meaning your prospects.  Which means that you need to learn marketing skills.  The kind of marketing skills that will draw your prospects to you and understand what they need so you can provide the solution that they are after.

How to Stuff Your Inbox Full of Qualified Prospects?

Many network marketers think there is some sort of magic trick on how to stuff your inbox full of qualified prospects, when in reality it’s a very simple.  Matter of fact it’s all around you and you may not even know it.  The next time you land on a website, you should see this little gem right in front of you.  I want you to understand how incredibly simple this is, so I’m going to get straight to how to stuff you inbox full of all the qualified prospects you need, so you don’t have to go buggin’ your friends, family and wasting money on those bottom of the barrel leads, as I like to say.  You need two things:

1.  An Autoresponder (I like to use Aweber)

2.  An Upfront Product to Give Away

That’s it.  That’s all you need to get the ball rolling.  With the autoresponder you set up an opt-in box on your site or blog where you will give away your upfront product in exchange for your prospects name and email address.  Once they opt-in, you have now created a lead that has came to you which changes the whole game in this industry.  Your prospect has found you and not you chasing them down.  HUGE gamer changer!

The key to this whole process is your product.  You have to entice your prospect with something cool to give them.  This product has to have some value to it though.  It can’t be something lame.  For instance, I see many people giving away the e-book Think and Grow Rich as their product. ( That’s what I started out with)  It’s in the public domain and can be given away.  I actually purchased this book at Barnes and Noble many years ago and could have got it for free.  So this has some value to it and your prospects can gain a lot of knowledge by reading it, not lame.

So what do you do if you don’t have a product to give away.  Well first, be creative here.  There are many ways to have an upfront product of high perceived value.  You could go to the public domain and grab something there or use a Private Label Rights product you have purchased.  These are great, but I always go towards products that you create because you have more to gain with them.  So, you could create a short 10-15 page report on something you have learned and can teach others to do.  Other things you could do are: make an e-course that educates others that can be distributed every day through your autoresponder; create a short five day video course; find an expert and interview them for an hour.  I like the last one because you become like an instant Oprah, so to speak.  You are the voice of your prospects and asking questions that they would like to know the answers too.

So, put on your thinking cap and turn on your creative mind.  There are several ways you can get an upfront product to give away to your prospects.

Is Buying Network Marketing Leads a Scam?

I think I’m letting the shark out the tank when I decided to write about the most controversy subject in lead generation and that is, is buying network marketing leads a scam.  Here’s the thing with buying network marketing leads from a well known company out there, if your bank account is stocked full of cash with cashflow from your business this MIGHT be an option.  There are some heavy hitters in the business that have a ton of cash to throw into this kind of marketing and they see some results.  But I am talking about hundreds even thousands per month.  Do you have that kind of cash just laying around to be put into this type of marketing?

The problem with this is that 96% of network marketers are in this business part-time and are funding their entire business with money generated from their full-time job, which also pays the bills and provides for the family.  So in reality, this type of lead generation is not the answer for you.  And you’re not alone.  Many network marketers turn to this after exhausting their names lists of friends and family which got ZERO results because this seems to be the only option out there.  I know how you feel, because I felt the same way, and what I found is that buying network marketing leads is a scam for the majority and these blood thirsty companies are eager to take the dough right out of your hand with big promises that these leads will give you the results that you are looking for.

Why do I make such a big statement?  Because I went down this path, just like you, and wasted so much time and money, it ain’t funny.  I purchased many leads from the top companies and literally got NO results.  My wife would ask me why I would spend all this money, when she herself was not seeing the results.  She could see the frustration on my face when I would come out of my office each night after making phone calls.  I would get hang ups, disconnected lines, people who were so angry from getting these calls from other companies associates that they asked me to take their name off my list.  I had one lady thinking she was getting a free box of pampers when she filled out the survey from one of the companies I bought the leads from.

So what do you do if this method is not the answer to your success?  I was just as frustrated as you, so I went on the internet to find the answers and this is what I found to be the answer. I have broken it down into 4 steps for you.

1.  You MUST learn attraction marketing

2.  You MUST be the hunted and not the hunter chasing your prospects

3.  You HAVE to increase your Personal Value to others by learning new skills

4.  Continue to increase your Personal Value so you become more valuable to more people

Network Marketing: Word Of Mouth Marketing?

word of mouth marketingHave you heard that network marketing is a word of mouth business?  In the sense of a true word of mouth business, NO.  But, don’t get worried just yet that your upline and company told you this.  Network marketing can be a word of mouth business, but not like you may think on the surface.

First, let’s look at word of mouth marketing in a true business sense, not network marketing.  Word of mouth advertising for a brick and mortar business can some of the best and some of the worst advertising for these types of businesses.  When you see a great movie, go to a suburb restraunt or read an excellent book you tell your family and friends about it without that rotgut feeling of, “what are they going to think of me” when you tell them about those things.  Why?  Listen close and see if you can catch the KEY to this.  You have NO FINANCIAL benefit when you tell them.  Did you catch on there?

Now let’s look at this word of mouth advertising from a network marketing perspective.  Very simple actually.  Now that you own a business that has services and products that you absolutely love, you still want to tell your family and friends about them, but NOW you have a financial tie to them.  This is where the game changes.   This is where that deep down rotgut feeling comes in when you are trying to tell your family and friends about the products your company has.  Hell, you get the same feeling when you are trying to cold call those leads you bought.  Now it’s got you thinking, “what are they going to think of me” when you try to tell them about your biz products or services.  You know in your heart they could truly help them out, but it’s so much harder to do now that you have that financial tie to them.  So how do you put that word of mouth marketing back into network marketing?

Well first, your friends and family will have nothing to do with this type of marketing that I’m about to share with you.  Why?  Because they are NOT your target market.  Sure if they would happen to ask you what it’s all about.  Tell them quickly, and get the hell on to another conversation.  Don’t sit there and give them a whole one-on-one business presentation pitch.  Do that and they may not what you coming around anymore :-)

The word of mouth marketing I’m talking about is branding yourself.  You brand yourself or You, Inc. by educating and teaching others in the industry and setting yourself up as a leader.  You start building a presence and start attracting others in the industry or newcomers who are out there searching for solutions to their problems.  This type of marketing has nothing to do with your products or your biz opportunity. Let’s face it, there are a ton of great companies out there with great products.  So setting yourself up as an expert in the industry will get people talking about you, not how good your products or opportunity is, and this becomes viral, true word of mouth marketing.  Focus on this type of marketing and you’ll be on your way to seeing REAL results.

Your Network Marketing Company and Upline are Training you Wrong?

I received a very interesting email the other day from Mike Dillard and I wish I could say that I could have said it better myself, but I can’t.  You see, when you first started your network marketing career with whatever company you chose, you were taught the same strategies that have been taught from the beginning of network marketing’s existence.  Make a list of 100-200 names ranging from your family, friends and people you come into contact with, for instance, who’s your dentist, who sold you your car, who is your insurance agent etc.  After going through all of your names on your list you’re instructed to buy leads.  This is suppose to make all of those visions of your dreams you had when you first stepped into the world of network marketing come true? Well, if you’ve been down that path you know this is so far from the truth it probably makes you sick to your stomach.

Think about this for a minute.  Are we still in the industrial age?  Are you still watching a black and white TV?  Does Pepsi or Coke still have the same logo as they did in the ’80’s?  I think you can now understand where I’m going.  The answer to all of these questions is hell no.  Things change, but yet your company and upline are still training their associates the same way as they did when network marketing started.  They have not yet figured out that the old way is not working as it did in the past and they can’t seem to get it through their thick skulls.  Or do they know and just not letting you in on the new media network marketing?  I could go on and on, but I wanted to share with you Mike’s email and it’s rather long.  I think it’s well worth reading as it will shed some light on this subject and hopefully it will open your mind to a whole new world as it did mine.  Enjoy!

all about psychology.… Specifically, the psychology of leadership and
human group dynamics.

Why can some people sponsor new distributors
effortlessly, while others struggle without results for years?

Well
I can tell you right now that it has NOTHING to do with scripts or what you
actually say.

There is no magic opener to use, or rebuttal to an
objection that brings the desired result, and you can’t retreat to your
dungeon to invent some amazing script that puts prospects into a
trance.

What you’re
about to learn will allow you to tap into knowledge and power that took me
7 YEARS to acquire and once you master this mindset, you will truly find
yourself a completely different person.

How To SponsorMore Reps
Without Hard Selling:

Within the sponsoring process, the goal isnot to
SELL our prospects on a product or opportunity.  That
sounds completely backwards and counter-intuitive doesn’t it?  After
all,what’s the point if you’re not there to make a sale
right?

Well there’s a problem with “selling” when it comes
to this industry,especially when you’re offering a business
opportunity.  If you “sell” someone on getting started and buying
into your opportunity through persuasive conversational and closing
techniques that pump them up emotionally, and target their “hot buttons”,
then yes, you will recruit a lot of people and make
sales.  But… once that emotional state wears off, whether it’s a
day later or a week, the buyer will experience remorse.  The dreams of
wealth and success will succumb to the harsh realities of business
ownership… That there’s real work involved, skills to be learned, money to
be invested, and much more.  These people quit and go back to their
lives.

Now if you’re just going after a one-time retail sale, that
would be fine. But that’s not your goal when you’re bringing in a
new distributor whom you’d like to a see a commitment/partnership of
several
years from.  Unfortunately, this is what happens most of the
time in this industry.  New distributors are
just focused on the sale.  They need the money, they want the self-gratification and recognition that
comes from sponsoring a new rep so they learn how to throw out lines, read
scripts, sell, over-come
objections, and close.

Many will go on to
achieve success because they sponsor so many people that some naturally
stick and run with it.  But selling and sponsoring like that is HARD
work.  It’s an uphill battle because you’re
fighting people’s instincts
to avoid being sold.  They’re afraid of making a mistake.  They’re afraid
of
being ripped-off.  They’re afraid of failing or looking silly.
There’s no TRUST.

In my opinion, there is a much better way that’s
more enjoyable and beneficial for both people…

Make it THEIR IDEA to
buy from you.  This is the new paradigm when it comes to selling in
today’s market.

Your First Step: Get Invited…

The old fashioned
methods of pounding the phones, holding meetings, pitching your business to
leads, and trying to turn your friends and family members into business
partners have come to an end.

“Prospecting” for business as you’ve
known it, has become
obsolete.
It’s an irrelevant, old-school sales
technology that is only
pursued by
individuals who have yet to discover the
methods Magnetic
Sponsoring is
based upon.

I’d like you to stop and
think for a moment.
Compare today’s social
environment to the world we
lived in just 15 years
ago.

Today, people are DROWNING under a flood of
information, marketing
noise,
and endless options to choose from thanks to
the
internet.

Corporations have literally turned us into numbers,
tracked our
personal
buying habits, categorized our topics of interest, and
constantly
use that
information to drive as many customized offers into our
viewing
screen.

Entire industries, products, and pieces of legislature
have been
created
just to help consumers manage the tidalwave… Think
pop-up
blockers, spy
ware protection, spam filters, and the “Do Not
Call
List.”

People have been forced to build fortified walls around
themselves
and
their homes to fight back the onslaught of people trying to
get their
hands
into their pocket book.

Solicitations are detested
and met with
frustration and impatience. We
simply don’t want to be
bothered which
means no sane person would
willingly build any kind
of business based on
cold-market prospecting,
and
in-your-face selling.

Yet… The internet has
created an
entirely new world of opportunity for
everyone, where you can
literally
re-invent your life, and turn a simple
thought into a business for
little
or no money at all.

Obviously, that’s a trend you intend to
take
advantage of, or you
wouldn’t be here right now.

But
unfortunately 95% of
those who start a home business will fail
themselves,
and the primary reason
for that failure is that they didn’t
acquire the
knowledge and skills
necessary to succeed in today’s modern,
competitive
market place.

So with
that said, here’s the key to success in today’s
market…

If you’re
going to sell something to someone, you’ve got to
find a way
to get
invited into their world as a welcomed guest, instead of
a pest.
Now you
have two options when it comes to building your
business…

You can simply
play the numbers and contact enough people
until you make a
sale through
traditional old-school prospecting and this
is the path 95% of
home business
owners take.

Or…

You can
position yourself in the market place in a
manner that allows
interested
prospects to find you, and contact you.

This
is called “attraction
marketing” which is at the

Option #2 is obviously the superior choice for several

this isn’t about selling any more.

You’re now
in the position of
the knowledgeable service provider who’s
expertise has
been sought out
and pursued.  There’s a level of implied
trust already
present.  At this
point, sponsoring becomes effortless.

This is where
you have to be today in
order to break through the infinite
noise in the
market place.

How do you
do this?

Simple… The most potent
marketing weapon you have in your
arsenal, is
actually you, because unlike
business opportunities,
there’s only one
of you in the entire
world.

You want to market YOU.

So the
key to
Step 1: “GettingInvited”, is to offer personal VALUE to
your
prospect
above and beyond your opportunity.

The best way to increase your
value
to other people is to educate
yourself.

Become an expert at
lead
generation.  Become an expert at sponsoring
prospects. Become and
expert at
attraction marketing.

There’s no magic here.  Just buy courses
like this,
apply what you learn,
and you will automatically acquire massive
amounts of
value to your
prospects who don’t know any of this
yet.

No value…
No invitation.

If you’re struggling with
sponsoring, it’s because
you don’t have
any real value to offer anyone.
Change that.

As we’ve
seen, having value and expertise to offer is VERY
attractive.

Hopefully some light-bulbs have
already gone of in your head just
from, but I have to tell
you, that this stuff is just the tip
of
the iceberg.

Free Video-How to Get the Most Out of Twitter in Your Business

Have you heard of this thing called Twitter?  Odds are you have and you may be wondering what it is and what the hype is all about or maybe you are thinking of using it yourself.  I wondered that myself when I first heard of it and couldn’t believe I was actually doing this.  It felt kind of childish, but once I seen it in action, I was hooked.  I was looking on the internet yesterday at CNN.com and came across an article about the Twitter craze.  They say it’s the fastest growing web startup today.  But real quick on what Twitter is.  First, it is a social networking site like MySpace or Facebook.  But instead of a complex system, it’s a very basic and simple web application known as “micro-blogging”.  Better yet, it’s free to set up an account and takes less than 5 minutes.  Then you can start sending “tweets” to the twitter world.  Yes, tweetsJ  That’s what they call it.  I just call it posts.  The reason it’s called “micro-blogging” is that you only have a maximum of 140 characters to use, so your update or post has to be quick and simple.  It marries the mass appeal of blogging with the rat-a-tat-tat of text messaging.  You can post anything you want, personal or business.  Just be creative.

  To use Twitter, first go to the site and sign up for a username, set up your profile and then start typing in the entry field.  It’s that simple.  Users “follow” one another and, if they choose, receive a notification when new messages arrive. Twitterers can create updates through Twitter.com as well as by cell phone and on sites like Facebook.  I use my Palm Treo 755p and use a program called Motwit to send my updates.  I couldn’t get my cell phone number to register through Twitter and it seems I’m not the only one having problems with it.  So, Motwit is a handy little application.

 So, how does this help your business?  This is HUGE for your business.  More and more internet and network marketing professionals are tuning in to Twitter.  This thing is becoming viral, meaning once people catch on, it will start growing exponentially.  It may be there now.  Not only can you communicate with your current network, you can tap into an entirely different network that you may have not been able to reach.  This could drive a ton of FREE traffic to your blog or website.  It may take a bit for people to start to notice and follow you, but you will be amazed after you get started. When I first got started, I would have one person start following me every couple of days.  All of a sudden, one day I had 18 people start following me and my updates.  Some days the numbers a lower, but it seems at least 10 people find and start following me per day.  Do you see the potential here?  You have opened a completely new funnel of people to communicate with.  CAUTION:  Once you get started, it can get a little addictive, but it is worth your while.

I remember back in the beginning of my network marketing business when I would run into an old friend or acquaintance and they would ask me how I’ve been and what I’ve been up to.  Well, I didn’t say anything at all about my new found business with fear of being rejected and frankly didn’t know what to say without looking like an idiot. Well the usual response from a brand new network marketer, and I’ve even seen this from some who have been in the industry for quite some time, would be to throw up all over them with information about their company and products with a bunch of hype and try to convince them that this is the best thing since sliced bread.  Afterwards, the conversation may go like this.  “So what do you think, you ask?  Wanna join, wanna join!”  This may be a bit extreme, but you get the picture.  Then hear comes the objections and the rejection because their friend doesn’t want to tell them no and thinks they’ve been up all night slammin’ energy drinks.  They then proceed to try and get the hell away from them as soon as possible.  If they happen to get their phone number before they ran off, it seems every time they try to contact them to chat or get together, they are never home and won’t return their phone calls.  They are avoiding them so they don’t get thrown up on again.  Chances are, they will not be able to talk about their business or products with them again and may have lost a friend.

 

What if there was a way to let those old friends know what you are up to and how you’ve been without the fear of being rejected.  Just for example, let’s just say you are not in network marketing and are a lawyer, own the practice and have four other lawyers working for you.  Oh, and you make six-figures.  When they ask, “So, how have you been and what have you been up to.”  You would naturally answer, without even blinking an eye and with confidence, that you were a lawyer and owned your own practice.  You would probably tell them the business is doing great and you also have four other lawyers working for you.  So why can’t you feel confident when telling them about your network marketing business?  The fear of rejection and them laughing at you telling you it will never work.  I could actually write a whole article on this one subject about the whole “real job” versus a network marketing business, so back to the subject about rejection free prospecting.

 

I am about to reveal to you some valuable information, so take notes.  This could change your whole perspective of warm or face to face cold market prospecting.  I had a coaching call with an MLMU coach and learned about the “Hi how are you,” script.  Very, very powerful stuff.  This actually falls into their program of Selling by Attraction.  Again, it’s about the law of attraction and not shoving it down people’s throats who could care less. 

 

First off, people hate to be sold too and want to feel like it is their decision.  People who are sold something without them feeling like it were their decision and in control, will regret it the next day.  Think about a time you were sold something that maybe you wanted but couldn’t afford at the time.  You felt like you were talked into it.  Your first reaction is you’re ticked off and your second reaction is trying to justify the purchase with logic.  People want to feel important, so how can you accomplish this in prospecting.  You let them make the decision.  Here is how the “Hi, how are you” script goes.  Let’s say you run into an old friend and they ask you how you’ve been and what you’ve been up to.  You could casually answer like this, “I’ve been doing great.  I’ve started a new business to earn some extra income and dig my way out of debt.”  You are just answering their question here and not trying to sell them anything.  Now, immediately revert back to your friend by asking him a question.  “So, are you married?”  If your friend answers the question and keeps talking, they are probably not interested.  The best thing is, you have not been rejected because they never had a chance to say no.  One thing this does is leave the door open for future conversation.  Now, if your friend answers and then asks you about what your business is, they are now asking you for more information and have shown some interest.  Wait though, don’t go through how your products and opportunity will change their lives.  Just try something like, “Well, you know how more and more people want to work from home to earn some extra money?”  You know the answer will be yes.  So now you are both on the same page, you tell them, “Well, what I do is coach and help others set up their own business to get the results they are looking for, whether it be earning extra money or getting out of debt.  (You could use anything here, spending extra time with their family or being able to travel more.  You are just plugging in things that people start home based business’s for.) Then again, revert back to them and ask another question.  “Anyway, enough about me, did you catch the game last night?” 

 

Are you catching what’s happening here?  You are not tricking them into getting into your business; you are simply answering their questions, making it their decision to move forward with more information because they are asking you for it.  Again, if your friend goes on about the game, don’t talk about your business anymore, they are not receptive anymore and don’t want any more information at that point.  Still the same thing, no rejection because you are not giving them an opportunity to say no and leaving the door open for future conversation.  If they answer your question about the ball game and then start asking you questions about how your business could help them, now you have a qualified prospect.  I hate calling friends prospects, but I think you get my point here.  You are not trying to sell anything, but simply attracting the right people into your business.  If your friend wants to hear more, simply make the suggestion to sit down and talk with them and make an appointment time.  If your friend doesn’t want to hear about your business and how you could be of assistance to them, no big deal, you have had a great catch up conversation and may turn into getting together on a more regular basis.

 

How do you use this for face to face cold market?  The exact same way.  Don’t change anything.  For example, if you happen to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger maybe at the mall or grocery store, you will more than likely ask them what they do for a living.  People love to talk about themselves and what usually happens after they have told you what they do?  You guessed it; they ask you what you do for a living.  “Well, you know how more and more people….. and keep the conversation going the same as above.  See how this could work for you?  If they never ask for more information, you have not been rejected and may have made a friend that will open the door for future conversation.

 

Remember, be yourself and speak with good posture and confidence.  People can see right through someone who is fake and trying to act.  People will become part of your team because of you and not your compensation plan or products, no matter how good they are.

How to Prospect without Rejection Introduction

I am getting ready to take a little vacation with my family and friends to Gulf Shores, Alabama to visit a friend I haven’t seen in about 9 years.  Should be a great time.  We will be leaving on Friday and taking a couple of days driving down so we can enjoy a little bit of the scenery.  I’m looking forward to doing some shark fishing from the peer and might even be taking a boat out.  Anyway, I’m packing and getting things situated around the house before we leave and in the meantime I’ve been putting something together for you that will contain some great value on how to prospect without rejection.  If you can never seem to answer that tricky question from an old friend or acquaintance that asks how you’ve been doing and what have you been up to, you’ll want check it out.  Check back the week of July 7-11, which is when I will return, and I will be posting the article here on my website.
